Educational Outreach open rehearsal
On Friday 26th September, the day before our season opener, Cuore was thrilled to welcome 15 young pupils from Hovingham School in Leeds to a special open rehearsal at the Royal Hall.
The event also included the discovery of the Royal Hall (Kuursaal) guided by members of the Royal Hall Restoration Trust. There was also an interactive presentation of instruments by members of the orchestra.
Korshad (a pupil of Hovingham School) – “The Royal Hall looked like paradise and the music was perfect…I loved talking to everybody and learning about the instruments.”
Over the past few years, students from Hovingham and other schools in West Yorkshire have been learning all about Grieg’s Piano Concerto, and educational initiative started by the Leeds International Piano Competition. As it was a work that Cuore was performing at the season opening concert, we were delighted to join forces with the Piano Competition to enable this group of students to hear the piece performed live in the stunning setting of the Royal Hall.
Artistic Director William Dutton and soloist Oxana Shevchenko met each one of the students after the rehearsal for an interactive Q&A and each pupil left with a signed copy of the concert programme.
As part of Cuore’s vocation to ignite and develop the interest of classical music with younger audiences, this event augurs well for the rolling out of Cuore’s educational outreach programme.
